Microblading vs. powder brows

Microblading

A hand tool places fine, hair-like strokes of pigment that blend with your natural brows. The result looks like fuller real brows, and it generally suits normal to dry skin.

Powder brows

A machine builds up soft, shaded pigment for a look closer to brows filled in with powder or pencil. Powder brows generally hold up better on oily skin and tend to last longer between refreshes.

Not sure which is right for you? Bre will look at your skin and the look you want, and recommend one at your appointment.

Custom brow mapping

Before any pigment goes in, Bre measures and draws your brows based on your own features: where they should start, arch and end. You see the shape in the mirror and approve it first, so there are no surprises.

What to expect

  1. Book and prep. Call or text to book. Bre will tell you how to prepare for your appointment.
  2. Mapping. Your brows are measured, drawn and approved before anything else.
  3. Pigment. Microblading strokes or powder shading, with the color matched to your hair and skin.
  4. Healing. Brows look darker and bolder for the first week or two, then soften as they heal over the following weeks.
  5. Follow-up. Most clients come back after full healing, usually around 6–8 weeks later, to perfect shape and color.

How long do permanent brows last?

Microblading typically lasts about 1–2 years and powder brows about 2–3 years before a color refresh. Sun exposure, oily skin and some skincare products (like retinol and exfoliating acids) can fade them faster.

Brow aftercare

Follow the aftercare Bre gives you. In general: keep your brows clean and dry, don't put makeup on them while they heal, let any flaking come off on its own instead of picking, and avoid heavy sweating, swimming and direct sun until they're healed.

Brow Questions

Who does permanent makeup at Our Family Art Collective?

Bre does microblading and powder brows at Our Family Art Collective, 608 SW Big Bend Trail in Glen Rose, Texas. Call or text (817) 559-8430 to book.

Should I get microblading or powder brows?

Microblading creates fine, hair-like strokes for a natural look and generally suits normal to dry skin. Powder brows create a soft, shaded makeup look and generally hold up better on oily skin. Bre will look at your skin and the look you want and recommend one at your appointment.

How long does microblading last?

Microblading typically lasts about 1 to 2 years and powder brows about 2 to 3 years before a color refresh. Skin type, sun exposure and skincare products all affect how quickly they fade.

Do I need a touch-up after microblading?

Most clients come back for a follow-up session after the brows have fully healed, usually around 6 to 8 weeks later, to fill in any spots that faded during healing and perfect the shape and color.

How old do you have to be for permanent makeup in Texas?

Texas treats permanent makeup as a cosmetic tattoo, so you need to be 18 with a valid government-issued photo ID.

Why do my brows look so dark right after the appointment?

Fresh brows look darker and bolder for the first week or two. They soften and lighten as they heal over the following weeks, so judge the final result once healing is complete.
